Roughly fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found many other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report initial examinations show the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any harm in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for information.
An important representative said the vandalism left him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
